Macnas Halloween Parade Set to Light Up Galway This Sunday
UPDATE: The highly anticipated Macnas Halloween parade is confirmed to take place this Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 5:30 PM. Excitement is building as the event promises to showcase the signature creative energy the festival is known for.
This year’s theme, An Treunn: The Summoning Of The Lost, draws inspiration from a lesser-known tale by Bram Stoker, the famed author of Dracula. The narrative highlights critical issues of habitat loss, setting a poignant backdrop for the festivities.
The parade will commence at the University of Galway and weave through the vibrant city center, passing iconic locations such as the Salmon Weir Bridge, Eglington Street, Shop Street, and Mainguard Street, before concluding at the scenic Claddagh. This year’s route is designed to engage audiences with a visual spectacle of art and performance.
Louise Lowe, Co-Artistic Director of ANU Productions and the parade director, along with Owen Boss, the lead designer, are dedicated to delivering an unforgettable experience. The team’s preparations have created a buzz among local residents and visitors alike.
Earlier today, Saoirse Duhan, our reporter, visited the rehearsal space at Fisheries Field to get a behind-the-scenes look. She spoke with Johnny O’Reilly, the Executive Director, costume designer Sheri White, and performer Eveet Peak, who all expressed their excitement and commitment to bringing the theme to life.
The Macnas Halloween parade not only entertains but also serves as a reminder of community spirit and creativity. It’s an event that brings together families, friends, and visitors to celebrate the magic of Halloween in a unique way.
As the clock ticks down to the parade, make sure to mark your calendars and prepare for a night filled with imagination and artistry. Don’t miss the chance to experience this spectacular event that promises to light up Galway and captivate all who attend.
Stay tuned for more updates as we approach parade day!
