UPDATE: The third annual Gig for Gaza, held on Sunday at An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny, successfully raised €5,375 for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). This urgent fundraiser showcased an all-female lineup, headlined by the acclaimed The Henry Girls, and was compered by local artist Ciarán Dunlevy.

This remarkable event saw An Grianán Theatre contribute €4,165 from ticket sales, while a raffle for a donated painting by local artist Karen Tinny raised an impressive €1,060. Additionally, local chemist Tom Murray added €500 to the total, and staff at Burrito Loco donated €100 from their tips. The funds will directly support critical health services in Gaza, amidst an ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The Donegal Branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed, stating, “Your support has made a significant impact during these challenging times.” The evening featured performances from several talented artists, including Joleen, Karen, Lorna McLaughlin, Ríoghnach Connolly, and celebrated Oud player Reem Anbar from Gaza, highlighting the rich cultural contributions of Palestinian artists.

The event’s success reflects the community’s commitment to humanitarian efforts. The ISPC Donegal committee thanked numerous supporters, including Patricia McBride and the An Grianán Theatre team for their support, along with local businesses like Burrito Loco and Kinnegar Brewery for providing food and refreshments.

Organizers also acknowledged the efforts of individuals like John Muldowney, who set up a GoFundMe campaign to bring Reem Anbar to the event, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to raise awareness and manage merchandise stalls. The community’s active participation not only underscores the urgency of the situation in Gaza but also demonstrates solidarity through cultural expression.

The funds raised will go towards enhancing access to essential health services for Palestinians, underscoring the critical need for support in the region. As the situation in Gaza remains dire, initiatives like the Gig for Gaza are vital for providing immediate relief and fostering awareness.

The ISPC concluded their statement with a heartfelt thank you to the audience, emphasizing, “Your generous contributions made the evening unforgettable.” This event serves as a powerful reminder of the impact community solidarity can have in times of crisis.
