Limerick Artist Deirdre Dunne’s Exhibition Now Open in Kilmallock
URGENT UPDATE: Stunning oil paintings by Limerick artist Deirdre Dunne are now on display at Friars’ Gate Theatre in Kilmallock, with the exhibition running until October 31. This vibrant showcase features a captivating mix of safari animals from Dunne’s time in Africa and rural landscapes inspired by her home in the Galtees.
Dunne’s exhibition is a significant opportunity for art lovers to experience her work, as she recently concluded a showing in Mitchelstown. “It’s a great chance for more people to see my art,” Dunne stated, emphasizing the importance of gallery space for artists.
The exhibition features a collection of oil paintings on canvas, developed over the last four to five years. Dunne expressed, “I love the idea that a painting could create nostalgia—especially Irish landscapes that remind people of home.” She believes her exotic works evoke a sense of wanderlust and awareness for wildlife conservation.
Having spent two years in Africa as a tour guide with her husband Bryce, Dunne draws inspiration from her travels. “When in doubt, paint an elephant!” she humorously noted, highlighting her approach to overcoming creative blocks.
Dunne operates a combined gallery and studio at her home in Kilbehenny, where visitors can experience her artistic process firsthand. “It’s like my own haven,” she described. Although she previously taught art classes at her home, she now conducts fully booked sessions at the Kilbehenny Community Centre.
Despite living in a remote area of Kilbehenny, the couple runs two successful Airbnbs on their property—one a yurt and the other a converted horse truck. Dunne manages her painting schedule around their family life and other business ventures, noting that winter brings a more structured routine for her artistic work.
As the exhibition continues, Dunne is also exploring new mediums. Recently, she began painting on corrugated iron, a project inspired by a call from the Arts Council for submissions for their tent at the upcoming ploughing championships. “The paint went on nicely and organically,” she remarked, enjoying the unique texture of her new canvas.
The exhibition at Friars’ Gate Theatre is a perfect chance to witness Deirdre Dunne’s artistic journey and purchase original works or prints, available through her website at deirdredunne.weebly.com. Don’t miss this opportunity to support local art and experience the vibrant creativity of Limerick’s own Deirdre Dunne before the exhibition closes on October 31.
