Two Arrested in Daylight Diamond Heist at Louvre Museum
Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the theft of valuable jewels from the Louvre Museum in Paris. According to reports from Le Parisien, the theft occurred during daylight hours last weekend, involving a group of four thieves armed with power tools.
The incident took place at approximately 09:30 local time, when the suspects broke into the Galerie d’Apollon, which houses the remnants of the French crown jewels. The thieves managed to steal nine pieces of jewellery before fleeing the scene on a scooter.
Following the heist, two suspects from the Parisian borough of Seine-Saint Denis were arrested on Saturday evening. They are currently in police custody as part of an ongoing investigation into “theft in an organised gang” and “association of criminals for the commission of a crime.” This investigation is being conducted by the Paris Banditry Repression Brigade (BRB) and the Central Office for the Fight against Trafficking in Cultural Goods (OCBC).
Among the stolen items were a tiara, a necklace, and a single earring that belonged to Queen Marie-Amelie and Queen Hortense. The thieves also took an emerald necklace and a pair of emerald earrings from the set of Empress Marie Louise, a brooch known as the “reliquary brooch,” a tiara that belonged to Empress Eugenie, and a large corsage bow brooch of the same empress.
The investigation continues as authorities work to recover the stolen pieces and determine the full extent of the theft. The incident has raised concerns about security measures at one of the world’s most renowned museums, known for its vast collection of art and historical artifacts.
More updates are expected as the police delve deeper into the case and gather additional evidence against the suspects involved in this audacious robbery.
