Barn Owl Productions has announced open auditions for the renowned Irish play, Big Maggie, written by John B. Keane. This classic production, set to take the stage at Thomastown Concert Hall in February 2026, follows the success of the company’s previous performance, The McGowan Trilogy, last May. Auditions will be held on November 9, 2025, inviting aspiring actors to join in bringing this powerful drama to life.

The auditions are open to both male and female performers of various age groups. Barn Owl Productions aims to create a diverse and talented ensemble from the local community. With rehearsals scheduled to commence in early December, the production is poised to be one of the most anticipated theatrical events in the coming year.

About the Play and Director’s Vision

First staged in 1969, Big Maggie is celebrated as one of Keane’s most significant works, offering a complex and emotionally charged depiction of family dynamics, power struggles, and female resilience in rural Ireland. Director Philip Hardy expressed enthusiasm for the auditions, highlighting the need for intensity and honesty in the performances.

Big Maggie is a play that demands intensity, honesty, and courage from its cast,” Hardy stated. “We’re looking for people who want to challenge themselves and be part of something unforgettable. This is more than just a play — it’s a story that still echoes deeply today.”

The opportunity to perform in such a beloved classic presents an exciting chance for local talent to showcase their skills and contribute to a production that resonates with contemporary audiences. As Barn Owl Productions prepares for this ambitious project, the community’s involvement will be crucial in ensuring that Big Maggie continues to inspire and captivate audiences.
