UPDATE: Transition Year students at Rosses Community School in Donegal just wrapped up an exhilarating Media Week in partnership with Learning Waves, showcasing their talents by producing a unique radio show. This dynamic project, which unfolded over several days, allowed students to explore important contemporary topics while honing their media skills.
The students engaged in every aspect of production—from researching and scripting to recording interviews and live performances. The radio show, released on November 3, 2025, features compelling discussions on various subjects that resonate with today’s youth, including fast fashion, health, social media, and traditional music.
One of the highlights was an enlightening segment on fast fashion, where students discussed its impact and how they express their individuality through style. They also connected with Francie McGinley, owner of Intensity Fitness, who emphasized the importance of health and motivation in achieving a balanced lifestyle.
In a powerful health and beauty segment, students interviewed Dr. Farah from Medical Skin Clinic, who provided valuable insights into skincare and building confidence through self-care. The conversation touched on how aesthetics can empower individuals from the inside out.
The students also delved into the world of social media, speaking with popular content creators Eric Roberts and Michéal Brennan (known as DonegalDaddy). They explored the pros and cons of digital fame, providing listeners with a nuanced view of life online.
Adding a cultural touch, renowned musician Mairead Ní Mhaoinigh from Altan graced the show with a live traditional performance while sharing her personal journey in music, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Donegal.
This initiative not only equipped students with practical media skills but also allowed them to voice their perspectives on essential issues affecting their lives today.
