Ballinasloe Secures Christmas Lights After Urgent Contractor Search
UPDATE: Ballinasloe will shine bright this Christmas after fears of a festive blackout were swiftly addressed. Authorities confirmed that local contractor Phillip Ward from Ballyforan will install the town’s Christmas streetlights, ensuring a dazzling display for residents and visitors alike.
Concerns initially arose due to challenges in sourcing electrical contractors for the project. However, Lyn Donnelly of the Ballinasloe Area Community Development (BACD) announced the positive news, stating, “We are thrilled to have found a contractor to carry out the work this year.”
The installation costs have seen a rise, pushing the total budget to approximately €32,000. Despite this increase, business contributions will remain steady, alleviating some financial pressure on the community. Since taking over the Christmas lights installation in 2015, BACD has relied on local contractors, but this year posed significant challenges.
Donnelly highlighted the community’s response to their call for help, saying, “We got a phenomenal response with the post going viral.” Many locals volunteered their time and expertise to assist in the project. However, due to insurance constraints, the BACD could only proceed with a fully certified contractor, shutting down any plans for volunteer assistance.
The urgency of the situation galvanized the community, with Donnelly expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support. She stated, “A huge thank you to everyone who responded to our recent SOS for an electrical contractor.”
Ballinasloe’s Christmas light sub-committee, consisting of key members including James Burke, Colm Croffy, and Seamus Duffy, is committed to making this year’s installation a reality.
As the installation progresses, the community remains hopeful and united in their efforts to ensure that Ballinasloe lights up for the festive season. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates as the project unfolds, ensuring that the spirit of Christmas shines brightly in the town.
