Rising Music Talent Takes Center Stage at Inaugural Soundwaves Conference
Emerging music acts from Ireland will perform at the first-ever Soundwaves Conference in Limerick on November 12, 2023. This inaugural event, organized by Limerick at Night, aims to showcase rising talent in the music and podcasting industries. Five standout acts are set to take the stage at various venues on Catherine Street, including Record Room, The Commercial, and Tom Collins.
The showcase will feature performances by BABYRAT, MayKay, Jamie McIntyre, Simple Things, and Limerick’s own Robert Dawson. Representatives from major music companies, including Universal Music, Apple, BBC, and Sony, are confirmed attendees for the three-day conference.
BABYRAT is returning from a sold-out tour across the UK and Ireland. The band is gaining attention with their dynamic sound, blending elements reminiscent of The Strokes and Olivia Rodrigo. Their engaging riffs and memorable choruses aim to bring fresh energy to the power-pop genre.
Also performing, the Kerry-based trio Simple Things consists of vocalist Dylan, bassist Shane, and instrumentalist Kealan. Their music incorporates traditional Irish influences with contemporary pop, and they have successfully filled venues such as Whelan’s and Dolan’s.
Galway singer-songwriter Jamie McIntyre has seen a surge in popularity this past year, largely due to his viral hit “Over Galway Town,” which has garnered over 5 million streams on Spotify. His rise on the viral charts places him alongside some of the biggest names in music globally.
In addition, MayKay, the former frontwoman of Fight Like Apes, recently released her self-titled debut solo album on Grain Store Records. Critics have praised the album for its raw emotion, describing it as “MayKay, unfiltered and finally solo on her own stage,” born from a journey of grief and self-discovery.
Completing the lineup, Limerick’s own Robert Dawson has made waves with his latest release, “Scared.” The track has achieved over 23,000 streams and has amassed 150,000 views on TikTok, highlighting his growing influence in the local music scene.
The Soundwaves Conference represents a significant opportunity for these emerging artists to connect with industry leaders and expand their reach. With a lineup that showcases a variety of musical styles and talent, the event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Ireland’s music scene.
As the industry looks to the future, the Soundwaves Conference stands out as a platform for innovation and collaboration, and many are eager to see how these talented acts will shape the musical landscape in the coming years. The performances will take place at The Commercial and Tom Collins on Catherine Street, making for an exciting night for music enthusiasts in Limerick.
