Dad-of-Four Wakes from Coma After Brutal Beating in Dublin
URGENT UPDATE: Robert “Speedy” Larkin, a 53-year-old father of four, has awakened from an induced coma following a vicious beating in Fairview Park, Dublin. His daughter, Leah Murray, confirmed this development, stating her father is now conscious but facing severe challenges in his recovery.
Larkin was brutally attacked on October 22, 2025, leading to extensive head injuries, multiple brain bleeds, and facial fractures. He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital and later transferred to the Mater Hospital for specialized care. Leah revealed that while her father is awake, he is “extremely confused” and unable to walk.
“He’s awake and that’s the main thing but he’s a shell of the person that he used to be,” Leah told The Irish Mirror. “He can remember who I am after a few minutes, but he doesn’t even know what day it is.”
Doctors have diagnosed Larkin with traumatic amnesia and anticipate that his memory could improve within three weeks. However, Leah shared that her father’s journey to rehabilitation is complicated due to a pre-existing arteriovenous malformation (AVM), which poses serious risks in case of head trauma.
Authorities from Clontarf Garda Station are actively investigating the attack, but as of now, no arrests have been made. Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses who were in Fairview Park between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM on the day of the incident. They are specifically seeking any video footage that may assist in their investigation.
“Investigations are ongoing,” Gardaí stated, urging anyone with information to contact them at 01 666 4800 or through the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
Leah expressed her concern about her father’s long road to recovery, emphasizing that medics have indicated he will not be released in time for Christmas. “He has to do a lot of rehabilitation,” she said, highlighting the emotional toll this ordeal has taken on their family.
The family is hopeful for a transfer to the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dun Laoghaire once a bed becomes available, but they face uncertainty amid the ongoing investigation and Larkin’s significant health challenges.
This developing story underlines the urgent need for community support and information as authorities work to bring justice to Larkin and his family during this difficult time.
