UPDATE: A devastating two-vehicle collision in County Louth has left five young adults dead and three others hospitalized. The tragic accident occurred just after 9 PM on November 15, 2025, on the L3168 road in Gibstown, just outside Dundalk.

The horrific crash involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Landcruiser. All five deceased, three males and two females, were occupants of the Golf, aged in their early 20s. A sixth occupant, a male also in his 20s, was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Two individuals from the second vehicle were similarly transported for treatment of minor injuries.

Superintendent Charlie Armstrong of Dundalk Garda Station expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. “This tragedy will have a deep impact on families and local communities in Carrickmacross and Drumconrath,” he stated. “Family Liaison Officers have been assigned to support the affected families during this difficult time.”

Emergency services, including the Dundalk Fire Brigade and HSE Paramedics, swiftly responded to the scene, initiating a major incident response. The L3168 remains closed as forensic investigators conduct technical examinations to determine the cause of the crash.

The local Coroner’s Office and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, with post-mortem examinations scheduled in the upcoming days. An incident room has been established at Dundalk Garda Station, and a formal investigation is underway under a Senior Investigating Officer.

Supt. Armstrong praised the professionalism of first responders, highlighting the challenging conditions they faced. “The respect shown to the deceased was exemplary,” he added.

Authorities are appealing for information from the public. Anyone who was on the L3168 between 8:30 PM and 9:15 PM on Saturday evening is urged to contact the Dundalk Garda Station at 042 9388400 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
