TUS President Honored as Mid West Leaders Shine at Awards
UPDATE: The Limerick Chamber’s Regional Business Awards unveiled its winners in a dazzling ceremony at the Strand Hotel on November 14, 2025, celebrating the region’s top businesses and leaders in front of over 400 influential figures. This annual black-tie gala recognized exceptional contributions from both global giants and local community heroes.
Highlighting the evening, Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), received the prestigious 2025 President’s Award for his significant impact on regional development and higher education. Chamber President Mairead Connolly praised Cunnane’s transformative vision, stating, “His leadership has reshaped the Mid West’s future.”
In a heartfelt moment, Cunnane reflected on his journey from Stranorlar, Donegal, through various leadership roles, including chief executive of Shannon Development and the Mid West Taskforce. He emphasized the need for strategic planning to propel Limerick into a bright future.
The evening also saw notable accolades for local businesses, with BD Research Centre Ireland (RCI) being crowned Overall Business of the Year. The company won the Innovation & Digital Transformation Award and was recognized for its pioneering contributions to the region’s economy. “This award reflects our commitment to innovation and community,” said Connor Cunnane, who accepted the award on behalf of RCI.

– Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Ireland for the Sustainability and Environmental Leadership Award
In her opening remarks, President Connolly stressed the critical need for future government investment to sustain the region’s growth, citing ongoing challenges in housing and healthcare. “While we celebrate tonight, we must not be complacent,” she warned, urging collaboration among local leaders and businesses.
Chamber CEO Michelle Gallagher echoed this sentiment, congratulating all nominees and winners, highlighting that their achievements showcase the Mid West’s potential. “We have the talent and drive to thrive,” she affirmed.
As the night concluded, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and hope for the region’s future. The celebration not only honored individual achievements but also reinforced the collective ambition for growth and innovation in the Mid West.
With awards spanning various categories, including Best Emerging Business Award to Treaty Software and Best Not for Profit to Our Lady of Lourdes Community Services Group, the event illustrated a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit thriving in the area.
