Students from seven schools in Kilkenny showcased their leadership skills during the annual Youth Leadership Awards organized by the Rotary Club of Kilkenny. The standout winner, Rory O’Reilly from Christian Brothers’ College, has earned the opportunity to represent Kilkenny in the regional finals next month.
The judging panel, comprised of Sian Moloughney, President of Kilkenny Rotary, along with Jason Dempsey and Paula Harte from the Kilkenny Volunteer Centre, praised all participants for their impressive capabilities, noting that the decision was particularly challenging. Moloughney expressed her gratitude to the Rotary volunteers who conducted interviews at schools and acknowledged the continuous support from teachers involved in the competition.
Rory’s victory not only highlights his leadership potential but also places him in contention for an international experience. The overall winner of the regional competition will have the chance to travel to the European Parliament as part of an international student group, further enhancing the significance of this accolade.
The Youth Leadership Awards aim to cultivate essential leadership skills among young individuals, preparing them for future roles in society. The Rotary Club of Kilkenny continues to play a vital role in fostering youth engagement and community service, encouraging students to develop their leadership qualities through various initiatives.
As Rory prepares for the regional finals, the local community looks forward to supporting him in this prestigious competition, which serves as a platform for young leaders to shine and make a difference.
