Urgent Meeting Requested for Tory Island Fire Service Issues
UPDATE: A West Donegal councillor has urgently called for the Glenties Municipal District to convene a meeting with the Tory Island co-op regarding critical fire service issues. Cllr Michael Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig emphasized the necessity of this meeting today, November 17, 2025, to advocate for equal emergency services for island residents.
The councillor highlighted that the current fire service on the islands is significantly scaled down, operating under a ‘green light’ emergency system. He firmly believes that Tory Island deserves a comprehensive ‘blue light’ emergency service comparable to that of mainland Donegal.
Cllr MacGiolla Easbuig stated, “It is imperative that we secure equality for our islands, ensuring that residents have access to the same level of emergency response as those on the mainland.” His remarks underscore the pressing need for immediate action to address the safety and emergency preparedness of island communities.
The Glenties Municipal District is expected to respond promptly to this request, as the implications for the safety of Tory Island residents are significant. As discussions unfold, local officials are urged to prioritize this matter to enhance the fire service capability on the island.
The call for action comes amid growing concerns over emergency service disparities, heightening the urgency for a resolution. Residents and stakeholders await confirmation of the meeting date, with hopes that it will lead to improved safety measures that reflect the needs of the community.
Stay tuned for updates as this story develops and the Glenties MD’s response is anticipated.
