Urgent: Man Charged After €490K Cocaine Seizure in Limerick
BREAKING: A man in his 20s has been charged and is set to appear in Limerick District Court this morning following a dramatic cocaine seizure valued at over €490,000. The arrest occurred during a targeted operation by Gardaí in Limerick over the weekend, as authorities ramp up efforts against drug trafficking.
Late Saturday, members of the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit intercepted a van in Hospital, leading to a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act. During this operation, Gardaí uncovered a significant stash of suspected cocaine hidden within the vehicle, estimated to be worth €493,920. In addition to the drugs, officers seized €3,000 in cash and several electronic devices.
The suspect was detained under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 and taken to a Garda station in Limerick city for further questioning. Authorities conducted a follow-up search at a residence in Castletroy, where they found an additional €2,075 in cash and a small quantity of cannabis.
The seized cocaine will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis as investigations continue. This operation highlights the ongoing battle against drug-related crime in the region and underscores the commitment of Gardaí to disrupt the sale and supply of controlled substances.
As the situation develops, communities are urged to stay informed about local drug-related activities. The court appearance this morning marks an important step in addressing the issue of drug trafficking in Limerick.
