Author Declares DJ Carey Will Not Profit from New Documentary
URGENT UPDATE: A new documentary aired tonight, revealing the shocking downfall of former Kilkenny hurling captain DJ Carey, who was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for defrauding victims of nearly €400,000.
Following the release of her book, The Dodger: DJ Carey and the Great Betrayal, journalist Eimear Ní Bhraonáin expressed her gratitude for public support, emphasizing the investigative nature of her work. “This is a news investigation and it is done without the cooperation of DJ Carey. He will not benefit from it financially in any way,” she stated.
The documentary, produced by Fine Point Films, premiered on Monday and features interviews with Ní Bhraonáin alongside historical footage of Carey during his illustrious career. This two-part series dives deep into the “reprehensible” actions that led to his conviction for defrauding over 20 individuals between 2014 and 2022.
In court earlier this month, it was revealed that Carey had fraudulently taken €394,127 and $13,000 from victims, under the guise of having cancer. Of this amount, only €44,200 has been repaid, leaving €349,927 and $13,000 still owed to victims.
“Go raibh míle maith agat to everybody who has bought the book over the weekend and given me feedback,” Ní Bhraonáin expressed. “I deeply appreciate your support always. Friends have sent me selfies with the book from all over Ireland. You are a sound bunch,” she concluded in her post, highlighting the emotional resonance of her findings.
This documentary not only sheds light on Carey’s deceit but also serves as a broader commentary on trust and betrayal in sports. As the story continues to unfold, viewers are encouraged to reflect on the impact of such actions on victims and the integrity of athletic communities.
Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops and more episodes of the documentary are released.
