Urgent: Letterkenny Hospital’s Renal Unit Expands Capacity to 21 Patients
URGENT UPDATE: Construction on a significant expansion of the renal unit at Letterkenny University Hospital is set to begin by the end of 2026. This expansion will boost patient capacity from 14 to 21 patients, addressing critical healthcare needs in the region.
Officials from the Health Service Executive (HSE) confirmed that the design and planning phases of the renal expansion project have been completed. The announcement comes after questions raised by Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry McMonagle during the latest meeting of the Regional Health Forum West this week.
The HSE anticipates that the design and tender stages will wrap up in 2026, with construction activities expected to commence on-site later that same year. The construction process is estimated to take 15 months, marking a pivotal moment for patient care in the area.
This expansion is crucial as it directly impacts the quality and availability of renal care services, which are vital for patients suffering from kidney-related issues. The increase in capacity will provide much-needed relief for local healthcare providers and improve patient outcomes in Donegal.
As this project progresses, residents and stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed about the developments. The urgency of these improvements highlights the ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the region.
