Community Mourns Beloved Maeve Haslette Following Untimely Death

A community in Leitrim is grieving the loss of Maeve Haslette (née Kerrigan), a cherished wife, daughter, and sister, who passed away at the age of 37. Maeve died peacefully on November 26, 2023, in the Intensive Care Unit at Sligo University Hospital, surrounded by her family. Her passing has left a profound impact on those who knew her, leading to an outpouring of tributes and condolences.

Maeve was married to former Leitrim GAA player Ronan Haslette. Together, they formed a loving family that included Maeve’s father, Seamus Kerrigan, and her siblings, Shane, Pauric, and James, as well as her sisters-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her mother, Mary, her sister Ann, and her cousin Rachel.

The local community is mourning her loss, with hundreds of heartfelt condolences flooding the memorial page on RIP.ie. Among the tributes, Leitrim GAA expressed their sympathies, stating, “We extend our deepest sympathies to Maeve’s husband Ronan, her father Seamus, brothers Shane, Pauric, and James, and the extended Kerrigan, Haslette, and Dolan families.” They acknowledged Ronan’s contributions to the club, highlighting the Kerrigan family’s support for the Minor team.

Messages reflecting Maeve’s kindness and impact as a teacher have also emerged. One mourner wrote, “Maeve was an absolute lady. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time. May Maeve’s gentle soul rest in peace.” Another tribute stated, “She was a truly kind and beautiful teacher. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.”

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Maeve’s repose at Our Lady’s Hospital Chapel in Manorhamilton. The visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 29, from 15:00 to 20:00. Following this, Maeve will be removed to St. Osnat’s Church in Glencar for a Requiem Mass at 13:00 on Thursday, November 30. She will be laid to rest in Diffreen Cemetery. Family flowers are requested, with donations in lieu directed to the Intensive Care Unit at Sligo University Hospital.

In a show of respect for Maeve, local businesses including Kerrigan Quarries, Óstaw8 Restaurant, and Thornton’s Butchers will close on Thursday, November 30. This gesture highlights the deep sense of community and love surrounding Maeve’s memory.
