Roisín O’Donnell has been awarded the prestigious title of Novel of the Year for her book Nesting at the An Post Irish Book Awards held on March 15, 2024. The ceremony took place at the Convention Centre in Dublin and celebrated the achievements of numerous talented Irish authors.

Among the notable winners were Manchán Magan, who received the Best Irish-Published Book of the Year award for his posthumously published work, Ninety-Nine Words for Rain (and One for Sun), illustrated by Megan Luddy. Other awardees included esteemed authors such as Joseph O’Connor, Elaine Feeney, Andrew Porter, and Cecelia Ahern.

O’Donnell’s Nesting tells a compelling story of a woman who escapes her abusive husband with her two young children, highlighting the themes of resilience and survival. This work has also gained recognition as it was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2025.

The An Post Irish Book Awards, which began in 2006, aims to promote and celebrate Irish literature. This year’s judging panel included prominent figures such as author and columnist Paul Howard and Literary Editor at the Sunday Independent Madeleine Keane. The public voting segment was supported by National Book Tokens.

Additionally, the awards introduced a new trophy designed by Irish ceramic artist Ciara O’Keeffe, inspired by the Celtic goddess Brigid.
