Irish Life Health Announces 5% Premium Increase Starting January 2026
Irish Life Health has confirmed that it will implement an average premium increase of 5% starting January 1, 2026. This adjustment will affect existing health insurance customers whose renewals are due on or after this date, as well as new customers signing up for coverage.
This announcement follows a series of prior premium hikes by the company throughout the year, with increases already recorded in January, April, and October. The decision aligns with similar moves by competitors such as VHI and Laya, who have also raised their rates recently.
Reasons Behind the Increase
In a statement addressing the premium increase, Irish Life Health cited rising healthcare delivery costs as a significant factor. Ann Marie Nestor, the managing director of the company, emphasized the advancements in treatment options available to patients. She noted, “People today benefit from more advanced and innovative treatment options, much of which is delivered in specialised settings.”
Nestor acknowledged the positive impact of these improvements on patient care but also highlighted the financial implications for premium prices. “I am acutely aware this comes at a difficult time for many households,” she added. “It’s important to us that we offer a broad range of plans to meet different needs and budgets.”
Impact on Customers
Beginning January 1, 2026, the undiscounted rates for the MyPlan 350 will be set at €1,145.30 for an adult and €208 for a child. For families consisting of two adults and two children, the total cost will amount to €2,706.60. This new increase follows a previous hike of 3% that took effect on October 1, 2025.
The ongoing trend of rising health insurance premiums raises concerns for many households already facing financial pressures. As health care costs continue to climb, consumers may find themselves compelled to reassess their insurance needs and budgetary constraints in the coming months.
As Irish Life Health prepares for these changes, the company aims to maintain its commitment to providing comprehensive health coverage tailored to the varying requirements of its clientele.
