€634,922 Fund Approved NOW for Galway Sports & Community Upgrades
UPDATE: €634,922 in funding has just been approved for urgent upgrades to sports and community facilities across Galway. Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, confirmed the approval for ten vital projects under the CLÁR programme, which aims to enhance rural community infrastructure.
This funding, announced earlier today, is a significant boost for Galway, aiming to improve the quality of life for residents and support local organizations dedicated to community development. Cllr David Collins, Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway, highlighted the hard work of community groups in crafting impactful project proposals and securing necessary match funding. “Their commitment is evident in the thought and care put into their project ideas,” Collins stated.
The largest allocation of €100,000 is going to the Portumna Chamber of Commerce and Galway County Council for a County Pilot initiative focused on enhancing facilities for individuals with additional needs, including a Changing Places Toilet. Other key projects receiving funding include:
– €65,000 each for upgrades to the community pitch at Lawrencetown Community Development and outdoor gym facilities at Killimordaly GAA Club.
– Investments in Astro and MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) developments at Kiltartan National School.
– An extended walkway and accessible parking at St Thomas GAA, as well as accessibility improvements at Meelick Eyrecourt GAA and Skehana Community Development.
Additionally, Abbeyknockmoy Hurling Club has been awarded €54,900 for crucial parking enhancements, while Pairc Spraoi Iorras Aithneach Cill Cháirain receives €25,022 for the development of a new playground sensory area.
Nationally, the Government is investing a staggering €12.3 million to enhance sports and outdoor facilities across the country, including playgrounds, running tracks, and community buildings. This robust investment underscores the commitment to strengthening local communities and fostering inclusive environments.
Liam Conneally, Chief Executive of Galway County Council, emphasized the importance of the CLÁR scheme for rural areas like Galway. “This year’s funding provides a strong return for the county, supporting community groups and sporting clubs right across Galway,” he stated.
As these projects begin, community members are encouraged to engage with local officials to ensure successful implementations that truly benefit their areas. The collaboration between the Council and community organizations is expected to create lasting improvements and invigorate local spirit.
Stay tuned for more updates as these projects roll out across Galway, transforming community spaces and enhancing local sporting facilities for all residents.
