In addition to his political career, McLoone was the CEO of Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and served on the board of the Health Service Executive, showcasing his commitment to public service.

McLoone is survived by his wife Imelda, four children—Michael, David, Philip, and Caroline—and their spouses, along with numerous grandchildren and extended family. His family is mourning a profound loss, and the community remembers him for both his leadership and sportsmanship.

“A prolific scorer and true attacking menace,” Aodh Ruadh reflected on McLoone’s GAA career, noting his vital role in winning county championships in 1965, 1966, and 1968. He was named on the Donegal team of the Millennium at wing forward, solidifying his status as a sporting icon.

Funeral arrangements have been confirmed, with McLoone set to be buried following a funeral mass in Ballyshannon on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
