Ukraine’s Zelenskyy Arrives in Ireland for Historic Official Visit
UPDATE: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has just landed at Dublin Airport, marking his first official visit to Ireland. His arrival comes at a critical time as peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are ongoing in the United States.
Shortly before 11 PM local time, Zelenskyy and his wife, First Lady Olena Zelenska, touched down for a packed schedule of engagements aimed at strengthening ties with European allies.
Throughout the day tomorrow, Zelenskyy will meet with Taoiseach Micheál Martin for a bilateral discussion, followed by a meeting with President Catherine Connolly at Áras an Uachtaráin. He will also address the Houses of the Oireachtas and participate in a joint press conference with Martin, highlighting economic cooperation.
This visit is seen as a vital step for Ukraine in garnering support from its allies within the European Union. Speaking earlier in Paris, Zelenskyy expressed optimism about revisiting the Trump peace plan, stating, “it looks better” as he aims to end Russia’s nearly four-year war.
Security measures are heightened around Dublin as Zelenskyy’s visit unfolds. Local police, known as gardaí, have advised the public to anticipate traffic disruptions due to planned road closures, particularly in the city center. Key restrictions will be in place on Chesterfield Avenue in Phoenix Park from 10 AM to 1 PM and around government buildings from 11 AM.
Moreover, Zelenskyy is expected to meet with members of the estimated 80,000-strong Ukrainian community living in Ireland, further cementing the connection between the two nations.
Authorities are committed to maintaining normal operations at Dublin Airport, urging travelers to allow extra time for potential delays. Updates on traffic management will be available via Garda social media channels as the visit progresses.
This unprecedented visit underscores the urgency of international solidarity as Ukraine navigates ongoing geopolitical challenges. The world is watching closely as Zelenskyy seeks to bolster support during this pivotal moment.
Stay tuned for real-time updates and further developments from this historic visit.
