President Connolly Honors Legacy of Des Kenny in Emotional Tribute
UPDATE: President Catherine Connolly has issued a heartfelt tribute to the late Des Kenny, a beloved figure in Galway’s cultural scene, following his passing on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Nursing Home. Connolly described Kenny as an exceptional bookseller, hailing from the renowned Kenny family, who had a unique talent for connecting readers with the perfect book.
Kenny’s impact on the literary community was profound. He founded the Kenny’s Book Club, which has enriched the lives of countless readers over the decades. Connolly noted that his insightful writing, including a long-running column in the Galway Advertiser, showcased his wit and intellect, further solidifying his legacy in Galway’s cultural life.
Des Kenny is survived by his wife, Anne Kenny, and their children: Deirdre, Des, Aisling, and Eimear. He also leaves behind his brothers Tom, Gerry, and Conor, sister Monica, and a wide circle of family and friends who are mourning his loss.
His funeral is set for tomorrow evening and Saturday morning, providing an opportunity for the community to pay their respects. In a special segment on Galway Talks tomorrow, his brother Tom will discuss Des Kenny’s remarkable life and contributions to the community.
