Glenswilly National School Sports Pitch Planning Approved NOW
BREAKING: Planning permission has just been officially granted for a new sports pitch at Glenswilly National School, confirming a significant development for the community. The approval from Donegal County Council encompasses a sprawling 2.85 hectares of land dedicated to enhancing sports facilities for students and residents alike.
Local Councillor Donal “Mandy” Kelly announced the news, expressing his enthusiasm: “Fantastic news for Glenswilly National School that planning has today been officially granted for the development of a new sports pitch, floodlights, and ball stops.” This new addition will complement existing facilities, including an astro-turf pitch and a running track, creating a comprehensive environment for football and athletics.
The journey to this moment began with conditional approval granted in late October 2025, but today marks a pivotal step forward. Councillor Kelly praised the efforts of Joseph, the school principal, and his team, stating, “I want to congratulate Joseph and everyone involved in the process to date.”
Looking ahead, Councillor Kelly emphasized the importance of securing funding to bring this project to fruition. “We still have a long road ahead, but I look forward to continuing to provide a helping hand in this project in any way that I can. I will continue to seek funding opportunities at local level as well as lobbying Government colleagues to ensure all funding opportunities are grasped as soon and as quickly as possible.”
This new sports pitch will not only benefit students but also serve the wider community, providing essential recreational facilities. As plans move forward, community members are eager to see how this development will enrich local sports culture.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project, which promises to have a lasting impact on the Glenswilly community.
