Limerick Woman Fined €200 After Abusing Garda at Kebab Shop
UPDATE: A 34-year-old mother-of-five from Abbeyfeale, Limerick, has been fined €200 after being arrested for public disorder outside a local kebab shop. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 3, 2025, and highlights a concerning trend of increasing tensions in public spaces.
Authorities confirmed that Noelle O’Connor was taken into custody around 12:30 AM after verbally abusing a member of An Garda Síochána, specifically Garda Enda Moroney, outside King Kebab on Church Street. Inspector Gearóid Thompson reported that Ms. O’Connor was “intoxicated” and her aggressive behavior prompted police intervention.
The court heard that Ms. O’Connor’s actions were part of a public order disturbance that required immediate police response. “She started verbalising her disquiet,” noted Inspector Thompson, emphasizing the chaotic nature of the situation. When she refused to cease her aggressive remarks, officers arrested her to ensure her own safety.
In a court appearance at Newcastle West, Ms. O’Connor pleaded guilty to several charges stemming from the incident under the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994. Despite having previous convictions, this was her first public order offense. On November 4, she was also disqualified from driving for three years due to a prior drink-driving conviction.
Solicitor Michael O’Donnell, representing Ms. O’Connor, stated that she regrets her actions and acknowledges that she encountered Garda Moroney at “a bad time.” He explained that she had consumed several drinks before the incident and has since expressed remorse for her behavior. With several young children to care for and currently unemployed, her situation is particularly challenging.
After formally convicting Ms. O’Connor, Judge Carol Anne Coolican imposed the €200 fine, underscoring the necessity for accountability in public conduct.
This incident raises significant concerns about public safety and the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order during late-night disturbances. As the community reflects on this event, further developments in public disorder cases are anticipated.
