Letterkenny Community Centre Warns of Fraudulent Craft Fair Ads

The Letterkenny Community Centre has issued a warning regarding fraudulent advertisements for a craft fair falsely claiming to take place on the weekends of August 1-3, 2023 and August 8-10, 2023. The centre clarified that these claims are untrue and that they are not associated with the individual promoting the events.

In a statement shared via social media, the Letterkenny Community Centre emphasized that only two official events are scheduled for August. These include a craft fair and a holistic healing fair on Sunday, August 3, followed by an antique fair on Sunday, August 10. The centre expressed concern about the confusion caused by the misleading posts circulating online.

Lewis Toye, the events organiser for Letterkenny Community Centre CLG, stressed the importance of direct communication for those interested in participating in events. He stated, “All bookings and payments must be made directly with me (Lewis) on 074 91 22761 only, as clearly stated in our official ads. Due to fraud attempts, we will never ask anyone to pay through Messenger or email.”

To ensure a safe and legitimate process, Toye advised potential stallholders to contact him personally before visiting the centre. He added, “We do allow stallholders to come to reception in person, but only after first speaking with me on the phone.” This proactive approach aims to prevent further incidents of fraud and ensure that all participants are aware of the legitimate channels for booking.

The centre’s statement serves as an important reminder for community members to remain vigilant against possible scams. Toye urged the public to share this information widely, stating, “Please stay vigilant and help us spread the word to prevent others from being misled.”
