Shelbourne Secures Milan Mbeng from Cork City on Multi-Year Deal

Cork City defender Milan Mbeng has signed a multi-year contract with Shelbourne FC for an undisclosed fee, pending international clearance. The 23-year-old player made 19 appearances for Cork City during the first half of the 2025 season, contributing two assists to the team’s efforts.
Born in France, Mbeng developed his skills at the academy of EA Guingamp before spending time at Belgian club Charleroi. Known for his versatility, he can play effectively as both a centre-back and a right-back. Following the announcement of his transfer, Mbeng expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m really happy and proud to join this great club. I can’t wait to wear the colours, meet the fans, and give everything I have for the team. I’m ready to work hard and help the club as much as I can at an important time in the season.”
Manager’s Praise and Expectations
Shelbourne FC manager Joey O’Brien highlighted Mbeng’s potential, stating, “We’re delighted to bring Milan in. He’s been one of the standout players in the league since coming in at the start of the season and has shown real quality throughout.” O’Brien emphasized the importance of Mbeng’s youth and ambition, noting that he embodies the qualities the club is looking to cultivate.
O’Brien further remarked, “We’re really pleased he’s committed to us, and we’re looking forward to helping him continue his development. He’s versatile, exciting, and will bring real quality to the squad as we push into the second half of the season.” The manager also acknowledged the efforts of the club’s staff in facilitating the transfer.
As Shelbourne prepares for the challenges ahead in the league, Mbeng’s addition is seen as a strategic move to bolster the team’s defense and enhance their performance in upcoming matches. With the second half of the season approaching, both the club and the player are eager to make an impact.
