Storm Floris Set to Hit Ireland with Severe Weather Warnings

UPDATE: Met Éireann has issued urgent weather warnings as Storm Floris approaches Ireland, expected to impact the country on Bank Holiday Monday. The storm will bring “very strong and blustery southwest winds” along with heavy rainfall, raising concerns for travelers and outdoor events across the nation.
As Storm Floris arrives, the potential for significant damage looms due to the high volume of holiday travelers and numerous outdoor events. This could lead to dangerous conditions, including structural damage, fallen trees, and power outages, according to Met Éireann.
The warnings, issued early this morning, affect eight counties along the west coast, specifically Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, and Leitrim. All warnings will take effect in the early hours of Monday, with some remaining in place until 4 PM.
The first warning is a status yellow wind alert for Clare, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo, effective from 2 AM to 1 PM. A separate status rain warning will affect Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo from 2 AM to 10 AM. Additionally, a status yellow wind warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, and Leitrim will be valid from 4 AM to 4 PM.
Travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution, as the storm’s impact may lead to hazardous conditions on the roads. The potential for debris and loose objects could pose further risks, with authorities urging everyone to prepare adequately for the severe weather.
According to the latest forecast, winds are expected to gradually ease throughout Monday, with temperatures ranging between 16 to 20 degrees Celsius. Once Storm Floris passes, a mostly dry night is anticipated, featuring clear spells and isolated showers in the north and northwest.
Stay tuned for ongoing updates as this developing situation unfolds. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and heed any further warnings issued by Met Éireann.
