Wednesday Showrunner Confirms Ireland as Filming Hub for Season 2

UPDATE: Just announced, the hit series Wednesday will officially film its second season in Ireland, marking a significant shift from its previous location in Romania. Showrunner Alfred Gough revealed that Ireland was always part of the plan, despite early production hurdles.
In an exclusive interview at Ashford Studios, Gough confirmed to Geek Ireland that the vision for the show was initially crafted with Irish landscapes in mind. “We shot our last series here, so we’ve been to Ireland before and we love it,” he stated. The move to Ireland comes just ahead of the highly anticipated release of Season Two, Part 1, which lands on Netflix on August 6, 2023, followed by Part 2 on September 3, 2023.
The production team faced several challenges during the planning phase of Season One, primarily due to the aftermath of the pandemic and the impacts of Brexit. Gough explained, “We tried to get here in season one… Literally between Brexit and the rush of other productions, we couldn’t set up here.” As a result, they opted for Romania, which offered the necessary space but lacked the long-term viability for their filming needs.
The sentiment of longing for Ireland was echoed by production designer Philip Murphy, who stated that the essence of the show was developed with Irish settings in mind. “They [Gough and Millar] had the idea for the show while they were in Ireland,” Murphy noted. “A little part of them always wanted to be here.”
With Ireland now hosting the production, fans are already speculating about the possibility of a third season being filmed locally. Murphy expressed optimism about the show’s future, saying, “It’s been great fun working on the show, and we’re all hoping that it comes back for a season three.”
The excitement surrounding Wednesday in Ireland not only promises stunning visuals for viewers but also highlights the growing significance of the Irish film industry. As the show gears up for its release, fans are urged to keep their fingers crossed for a return for Season Three.
As anticipation builds, Wednesday is set to become a focal point of conversation in the coming weeks, with its unique blend of gothic charm and Irish allure capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide. Don’t miss out as the series takes on new heights this August!
