Irish Pop Star Lyra Embraces Sass in Upcoming Album

Irish pop sensation Lyra is currently channeling her signature sass as she works on her latest album in the UK. Known for her vibrant stage presence, Lyra has shared that her creative process has not only energised her but also stirred some light-hearted tension with her downstairs neighbour, who she says is “driven crazy” by her singing.
Lyra, originally from Cork, revealed that she often sings as she composes, leading to amusing interactions with the tenant living below her. “I had about four middle eights for ‘Weird Club’ and I was going into almost operatic, gothic choir,” she explained, laughing. “She knocked on the door and said, ‘I’m going to record a podcast, can you keep it down?’”
The pop star recounted a late-night songwriting session that extended into the early hours. “The other morning I stayed up till 3 a.m. to finish a song. I was in the spare room with my headphones on, excited about getting this middle eight down,” she said.
New Album Promises Upbeat Vibes
Lyra’s new collection of songs is set to reflect a more upbeat and fun-loving side of her artistry. “It will be more upbeat and more sass, welcoming listeners to the Lyra they experience at my shows,” she noted.
She acknowledged that audiences often express surprise at her lively persona during performances. “People come to my shows and when I start talking they’re like, ‘what in the name of God is going on here?’ They hadn’t seen that side of me, so this is me putting that into song on the new album,” she shared.
Lyra’s previous work has received acclaim, with her debut album topping the charts and her Irish tour selling out. Nonetheless, she candidly discussed the emotional toll of negative comments that can accompany fame. “You see all the positive comments, but I’d love to know why one negative comment hurts so much,” she reflected.
Navigating Fame with Support
Despite the challenges, Lyra remains focused on her passion for music. She emphasized the importance of emotional depth in her songwriting. “You do have to be very emotional to be in this game. If I was like a stone I don’t think I could write half of the things that I wrote,” she explained.
Addressing the often harsh criticisms public figures face, Lyra stated, “I’m asking to be able to sing and do something that I love for the rest of my life and share it with people. I’m not asking for people to hate on me or call me fat or say that my thighs are huge.”
Fortunately, she has found guidance in her management team, particularly from Caroline Downey and Caroline Henry, who have both been influential in her career. “They’ve been through it with artists like Hozier, one of the biggest artists in the world, and their advice is always, ‘Don’t go through the comments. Just don’t,’” Lyra explained.
Taking this advice to heart, she has limited her exposure to online negativity. “After one experience, I did take that advice and I haven’t looked at comments really that much,” she noted.
Engaging with her fans on social media, particularly on Instagram, has provided her with a more positive experience. “I feel it’s a positive space where I can interact with my fans and we’re friends,” she said, expressing gratitude for the supportive community surrounding her.
As she prepares to release her new album, Lyra is committed to being true to herself and her artistry. “My team are so positive and love me for who I am. I’m not spending half the time trying to change myself. I’m just spending all my time trying to be myself, and it’s the best feeling ever.”
With a fresh batch of songs on the horizon, fans can anticipate an exciting new chapter for this dynamic artist.
