Man Charged After Death of 70-Year-Old in Waterford Incident

A man in his thirties has been charged following the death of a man in his 70s who was discovered with injuries at a home in Waterford City. The incident occurred on Friday, when emergency services responded to a call at a residence on St Catherine’s Grange shortly after 14:00. Upon arrival, authorities found the elderly man unresponsive, prompting immediate transport to University Hospital Waterford. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Sunday.
The Gardaí arrested a man in his thirties at the scene. He has since been detained at a Garda station within the Waterford-Kilkenny Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Following the arrest, he was charged and made an appearance at Waterford District Court on Sunday.
Ongoing Investigation and Support for the Family
In the wake of this tragic incident, both the local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and a postmortem examination is scheduled to take place. A technical and forensic examination of the scene has already been completed, with a senior officer overseeing the investigation. To aid the family of the deceased, a family liaison officer is providing support during this difficult time.
