European City Crowned the Most Walkable in the World for 2025

UPDATE: Skyscanner’s latest rankings have just announced that Cordoba, Spain, is the world’s most walkable city for 2025, with a remarkable score for pedestrian-friendliness. This news is a game-changer for travelers seeking a stress-free vacation, as exploring on foot allows for a more immersive experience.
The rankings reveal that six of the top ten cities are located in Europe, making it an exciting time for European tourism. With no need for car rentals or complex public transport, holidaymakers can now plan their trips with ease, focusing on the charm and history of their destinations.
Cordoba, nestled in the heart of Andalusia, stands out with the shortest walking distances among the top contenders. Visitors can complete a circuit of major attractions in just 26 minutes, covering approximately 2,730 steps. The city boasts 29 walking routes, offering a plethora of experiences for those who love to explore by foot.
Renowned for its stunning architecture, Cordoba is home to the iconic La Mezquita, a historic mosque that attracts tourists worldwide. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, features narrow, winding streets perfect for leisurely strolls. Key attractions include the Palacio de Viana, La Juderia, and Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos.
One visitor shared their experience on Tripadvisor, stating, “
Cordoba was built before cars, so your taxi will probably not be able to take you to the door, but once you are there, you will be able to walk everywhere.
” They recommend starting the journey at the Roman Bridge and exploring the quaint cafes and tapas bars that line the cobblestone streets.
Another traveler noted, “
There is lots to see and do around the many cobbled streets. Don’t be afraid to wander down little alleys, as this is where the hidden gems lie.
” The charm of Cordoba lies not only in its historical significance but also in its affordability, with many restaurants offering reasonably priced meals compared to other tourist-heavy cities.
Following Cordoba, Nagasaki, Japan, secured the second spot in the rankings, noted for its low crime rate and extensive array of 531 attractions. The city’s average altitude of just 89 meters makes it easy to navigate, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for pedestrians.
As travelers plan their vacations for the upcoming year, the surge in interest for walkable cities highlights a growing trend toward immersive, pedestrian-friendly travel. With Italy and Monaco also recognized for their compact city centers and diverse attractions, the future of travel is shifting toward ease of exploration.
The full list of the world’s most walkable cities for 2025 is expected to inspire many, prompting a reassessment of travel plans. As more travelers seek out locations where they can explore on foot, cities like Cordoba are set to become must-visit destinations.
