Urgent: Public Consultations for Three Trees-Carndonagh Greenway

UPDATE: Two crucial public consultation events are set to occur next week regarding the proposed Three Trees to Carndonagh Greenway Project. Donegal County Council has confirmed that these sessions aim to promote an attractive trail for pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals with impaired mobility, enhancing recreational opportunities in the region.
The consultations will take place on August 20, 2025, from 14:00 to 20:00 at Glencrow Hall, Moville, and on August 21, 2025, at the Carndonagh PSC, Council Chamber Room, also from 14:00 to 20:00. This initiative is part of a broader effort to link communities while boosting local economies through increased tourism.
The project is expected to create significant social and economic benefits, as highlighted by a council spokesperson:
“Delivery of such a greenway would not only provide a great recreational facility and social support for local communities but also provide important cross-border linkages to Derry.”
The greenway will serve as a safe corridor for users, contributing to healthier, sustainable transportation options.
This initiative is aligned with the larger Inishowen Greenway project, enhancing cross-border connectivity to Derry City. The trail will connect to existing paths, including the Muff to Three Trees Greenway, which is a 5 km extension building on the 2.5 km already completed in Muff, linking to an additional 8.5 km in Northern Ireland.
Currently, the project is nearing the completion of its Phase 2: Option Selection process. A previous public consultation in November 2024 presented options for the route corridor, which have undergone detailed assessments according to the TII Project Manager’s Manual for Greenway Projects and other guidelines. The forthcoming consultations will introduce the Emerging Preferred Route Corridor and invite feedback from the community.
Following the in-person consultations, public displays will be available for two weeks, ending on September 5, 2025, at the Carndonagh PSC’s Main Reception Area, open from 09:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday.
For those unable to attend, a virtual consultation room will be accessible on the project website starting August 18, 2025. Community members can also provide feedback online until September 5, 2025, by visiting https://threetreescarndonaghgreenway.ie or contacting the project team via email at [email protected].
This consultation is a critical opportunity for residents to engage with the project team and influence the future of their community. Don’t miss your chance to have your voice heard!
