Mark Dowd Appointed New Senior Football Manager for Roscommon

Mark Dowd has been appointed as the new senior football manager for Roscommon, succeeding Davy Burke. Dowd, who previously managed the Roscommon Gaels, is expected to bring a wealth of experience and success to the role, having been part of a management team that led the county to an All-Ireland victory in 2006.
His extensive background includes serving as a member of the backroom team that secured Connacht titles for Roscommon in both 2010 and 2019. Additionally, Dowd managed the county’s Under-21 team, leading them to a Connacht title in 2015. Most recently, he played a pivotal role in guiding the Roscommon Gaels to a Senior title in 2022 and took the team to a county final in 2024.
Leadership and Vision for the Future
The announcement of Dowd’s appointment is subject to ratification, and his backroom team has yet to be confirmed. Roscommon GAA Chairman Brian Carroll expressed enthusiasm about Dowd taking the helm, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Mark Dowd as the incoming manager of the Roscommon Senior Football team. Mark has an outstanding track record at both club and county level, and he brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for Roscommon football.”
Carroll further emphasized the confidence he has in Dowd’s leadership, stating, “I have had the pleasure of working with Mark on numerous occasions over the last 12 years, and I know the Roscommon Senior Football team is in safe hands going forward. On behalf of Roscommon GAA, I would like to wish Mark every success in the role and assure him of our full support as he begins this exciting new chapter.”
Recent Challenges and Outlook
In recent years, Roscommon experienced a challenging period following their promotion back to Division One in 2025. The team struggled during the Championship campaign, finishing at the bottom of their All-Ireland group and facing elimination from the Connacht Championship.
As Dowd steps into this new role, he will be tasked with addressing these challenges and building on the progress made in recent seasons. His proven track record and deep understanding of Roscommon football are seen as vital assets for revitalizing the team’s performance on the national stage. The upcoming season will undoubtedly be a crucial test for both Dowd and the Roscommon Senior Football team as they aim to regain their competitive edge.
