UPDATE: A Limerick woman, Juliette O’Connell, is celebrating ten years cancer-free and rallying support for the upcoming Very Pink Run in Cork on September 7. As a Patient Ambassador for Breast Cancer Ireland, O’Connell’s inspiring journey is set to motivate thousands of participants across the country.

O’Connell, a former cyclist, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 41 despite no family history of the disease. “In June 2011, I noticed the rash, but it took months to get checked,” she recounted. After surgery and radiotherapy, she emerged victorious, now committed to raising awareness and funds to combat breast cancer.

This year, the Very Pink Run aims to expand its impact, with over 97,000 participants globally contributing to a phenomenal total of €7.3 million raised for breast cancer research since its inception. Participants are encouraged to register at www.verypinkrun.ie to join the movement in Cork, Dublin, and Kilkenny.

Speaking at the event launch, Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland, expressed excitement for the return of the event: “Each participant helps us advance research, awareness, and treatments for the 3,700 people diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland each year.”

The funds raised will focus on crucial areas such as researching metastatic disease progression and accelerating scientific discoveries into clinical trials. Hurley emphasized the importance of community support: “People’s kindness opens the door to groundbreaking research.”

Catherine O’Toole, Head of Marketing for Very, echoed the event’s significance, noting, “With breast cancer affecting one in seven women and one in 738 men in Ireland, this cause impacts many.” She urged everyone to participate: “Sign up to walk, run, or scoot with your family and friends. Together, we can make a difference.”

The 10k event kicks off at 12 noon, followed by a 5k event at 12:30 PM at MTU, Bishopstown, Cork. This event is open to all ages and abilities, fostering a spirit of unity and hope.

Join Juliette O’Connell and thousands of others in this uplifting initiative that combines community spirit with the fight against breast cancer. Don’t miss out—register now!
