Wendy’s to Launch First Restaurant in Ireland This October

Wendy’s is set to open its first restaurant in Ireland this October, marking a significant milestone for the fast food chain. The new outlet will be located at the Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork. This opening comes as the service station and energy company, Corrib Oil, has been confirmed as Wendy’s franchise partner in the country.

Founded in 1987, Corrib Oil operates 40 convenience stores and 20 fuel depots across 17 counties in Ireland. The new Wendy’s restaurant is expected to create approximately 50 jobs in the local area, highlighting the positive economic impact of the venture.

Wendy’s is renowned for its square beef patties and a menu that includes favorites such as chili, baked potatoes, and the popular Frosty dessert. The Cork location will be the first of its kind in Ireland, with a commitment to sourcing 100 percent fresh Irish beef and chicken for all menu items.

Michael Dalton, Managing Director of Corrib Brands, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “Opening the first Wendy’s restaurant in Mahon Point marks a major milestone in our collaboration with Wendy’s. We’re thrilled to bring Wendy’s to Cork, offering fresh and locally sourced menu items and outstanding hospitality to local customers, who will be the first in Ireland to experience the brand.”

Michael Clarke, Managing Director for Europe at Wendy’s, emphasized the potential for long-term growth in the Irish market. He remarked, “Corrib Oil’s deep roots in the community and commitment to operational excellence make them an ideal partner to deliver the Wendy’s ‘globally great, locally even better’ experience.”

The Centre Director of Mahon Point Shopping Centre, Justin Young, also shared his enthusiasm for the opening. He noted, “This opening is great news for Cork. Not only does it create 50 new local jobs, but it also gives people the opportunity to enjoy the craveable, high-quality food Wendy’s is famous for.”

In addition to the Wendy’s opening, there is further exciting news for fast food enthusiasts in Ireland. Applegreen is preparing to launch the country’s first Taco Bell this September. Taco Bell, which operates over 8,000 locations globally, is well-known for its Mexican-inspired fast food, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and nachos.

The Taco Bell outlet will be part of a new €15 million motorway service area located at Junction 6 on the M3 in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. This service hub is set to feature other popular brands, including an M&S Food shop, a Burger King, a Braeburn Coffee Café, and Applegreen’s new deli counter brand, Crafted. It will also provide dine-in seating, takeaway, and drive-thru facilities.

Applegreen first revealed plans to introduce Taco Bell to Ireland in May and intends to open several outlets across the nation over the next five years, although specific future locations have yet to be confirmed.

The arrival of both Wendy’s and Taco Bell signifies a growing trend in the fast food market in Ireland, offering consumers more variety and job opportunities in the process.
