URGENT UPDATE: La Popote, a Michelin-starred restaurant located in Macclesfield, Cheshire, has just launched the UK’s first-ever exclusive ‘water menu,’ featuring bottled waters priced up to £19 (€22). The idea, crafted by water sommelier Doran Binder, has been in the works for two years and aims to elevate the humble beverage to a new culinary level. The menu features an impressive selection of seven bottled waters, including three still and four sparkling options, carefully curated by co-owner and head chef Joseph Rawlins over the past seven months.

Among the offerings is the locally sourced Crag Spring Water, priced at just £5 (€5.80), making it one of the more affordable choices at this prestigious eatery. In stark contrast, the luxurious Palace of Vidago, a premium Portuguese sparkling water, retails at £19.

In a unique twist, La Popote serves water in wine glasses, providing a sophisticated experience for diners who may be abstaining from alcohol. Each bottle on the menu comes with descriptions detailing the tasting notes, allowing patrons to appreciate the subtle differences in flavor and texture. The Icelandic Glacier Water is noted for its ‘sharp’ and ‘dry’ characteristics, while the smooth Crag Spring Water offers a creamy mouthfeel.

Importantly, La Popote ensures that guests are not obligated to splurge on bottled options; complimentary tap water is available for those who prefer a budget-friendly alternative.

Head chef Joseph Rawlins, who trained at Gordon Ramsay’s Tante Marie and has been co-owner of La Popote since 2019, remarked on the evolving dining landscape. “With fewer large groups dining out, we wanted to create something unique that caters to all guests, including those who may be driving,” he explained.

This exclusive water menu marks a significant trend in the culinary world, as restaurants seek to diversify their offerings and appeal to a wider range of customers. As the launch is generating buzz, foodies and water lovers alike are encouraged to explore this new concept at La Popote.
