The closure of the Dundrum House Golf and Leisure Resort in Tipperary has resulted in the loss of 48 jobs, effective immediately. The facility, operated by Brogan Capital Ventures, shut its doors yesterday, impacting its restaurant, bar, golf course, driving range, golf shop, and leisure centre.

Brogan Capital Ventures announced the closure in a statement, expressing regret over the decision’s impact on employees, members, and the local community. The company emphasized that the closure was unavoidable, marking a significant shift for the resort that has been a fixture in the area.

A redundancy consultation period of 30 days is now in effect for the affected staff. Each of the 48 employees has been informed of the situation, as the company navigates the implications of this decision.

Background and Future of the Resort

The Dundrum House Hotel was acquired by Brogan Capital Ventures in 2016. At that time, the company was led by Dublin GAA stars Alan Brogan, his brother Bernard Brogan Jr, and their father Bernard Brogan Sr. However, by the end of 2017, all three had stepped down from their director roles.

While the main resort has closed, the campus also hosts an IPAS centre, which operates independently and remains unaffected by the closure. A two-year contract for the IPAS centre was announced in April 2023, indicating ongoing activity in at least part of the campus.

The closure of Dundrum House reflects broader challenges in the hospitality sector, where many establishments are grappling with changing economic conditions and competition. The loss of jobs at this resort adds to concerns about employment in the region and the impact on the local economy.

As the redundancy process unfolds, the community and former employees are left to navigate the repercussions of this significant closure.
