Galway Community Projects Receive Over €634,000 in CLÁR Funding
The Irish government has allocated just over €634,000 in funding under the CLÁR programme to support ten community projects across County Galway. This initiative aims to enhance small infrastructural projects in rural areas that have faced significant population decline.
The largest share of funding, amounting to €100,000, will be directed to the Portumna Chamber of Commerce. This funding will be utilized to build new changing rooms and toilet facilities in central Portumna, enhancing the community’s amenities significantly.
Several other clubs and organizations will also benefit from this funding. The support spans across various projects, including upgrades to sports facilities and community spaces. The following is a detailed list of the funded projects:
Breakdown of Funded Projects
– **Abbeyknockmoy**: The Abbeyknockmoy Hurling Club will receive €54,900 for enhancements to their car park.
– **Cill Chiaráin**: The Páirc Spraoi Iorras Aithneach will develop a playground and sensory area with an allocation of €25,022.
– **Eyrecourt**: The Meelick Eyrecourt Gaelic Athletic Association will receive €65,000 for enhancements at their community sports ground.
– **Kilchreest**: The St. Thomas’ GAA and Camogie Club will use €65,000 for an extended walkway and improved parking accessibility.
– **Killimordaly**: The Killimordaly GAA Club is set to install a community outdoor gym and upgrade their parking and accessibility with a funding of €65,000.
– **Kiltartan**: Kiltartan National School will develop a new Multi-Use Games Area with funding of €65,000.
– **Lawrencetown**: The Lawrencetown Community Development CLG will upgrade facilities at the community pitch with €65,000.
– **Menlough**: The Skehana Community Development will receive €65,000 for car park and footpath upgrades at their facility.
– **Williamstown**: The Glenamaddy Soccer Club will upgrade the existing Astro/Multi-Use Games Area with funding of €65,000.
These projects represent a significant investment in the community, reflecting a commitment to improve local infrastructure and support the development of rural areas in Galway. The funding will not only enhance facilities but also promote community engagement and participation in various sports and recreational activities.
