Irish Ice Cream Brand Murphy’s Reports €210,000 Profit Surge

Murphy’s Ice Cream, an Irish brand known for its unique flavors, has reported post-tax profits of over €210,000 for the financial year ending in 2024. This significant profit increase, which represents a remarkable 179% rise, is primarily attributed to the company’s expansion into the Chinese market. The latest financial accounts reflect a robust performance, with total revenue reaching approximately €4 million.
The co-founder and CEO, Sean Murphy, highlighted the success of the company’s venture into China, stating that profits of €213,608 have been realized since the expansion. Murphy’s Ice Cream currently operates three outlets in Dalian, a city with a population exceeding 6 million, through a franchise model.
Expansion Plans and Future Growth
Established in 2000, Murphy’s Ice Cream has six locations across Ireland, including two in Dingle and one each in Killarney, Galway, Cork, and Dublin. During peak summer months, the company can employ as many as 120 people.
Sean Murphy, originally from the United States, mentioned that the company is actively considering further expansion into the U.S. market. Currently, they are evaluating whether future stores will be owner-operated or franchised. Murphy expressed a cautious approach to the next steps, stating, “We are very careful about what our next move will be and we are looking at the US intensely at the moment.”
Looking ahead, Murphy anticipates an incremental increase in revenues for 2025. In addition to its retail outlets, the brand also offers pre-packaged ice cream tubs in 50 locations across Leinster, further enhancing its market presence.
The impressive performance of Murphy’s Ice Cream underscores the potential for growth in the gourmet ice cream sector, particularly through international expansion. As the company continues to explore new opportunities, it remains focused on maintaining the quality and uniqueness of its offerings that have endeared it to customers both domestically and abroad.
