Limerick Launches Innovative Programme for SME Leaders

A new initiative aimed at owners of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is set to launch in Limerick. The programme, organized by The Engine building on Cecil Street, is designed to equip SME leaders with essential tools, frameworks, and peer support to enhance innovation, competitiveness, and growth. With participation limited to just 12 businesses, interested owners are encouraged to apply quickly.
The programme will be conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person sessions at The Engine building with online masterclasses. Each participating company will finish the programme with a tailored roadmap aimed at strengthening leadership and entrepreneurial capability. The initiative is scheduled to run from October to December 2023 and is fully funded for the selected firms.
Curriculum Focus and Structure
The curriculum will cover various critical topics, including innovation foundations, design thinking, business model innovation, and AI transformation tailored to small enterprises. Additionally, sessions will address leadership and organizational culture. Participants will benefit from individual mentoring and receive a toolkit after completing the course.
The programme begins with a two-day, in-person diagnostic workshop in early October, followed by several online classes. Midway through the programme, there will be two more in-person sessions, culminating in an integration and showcase meeting in December. This structure is designed to accommodate all SMEs, including owner-managers, founders, chief executives, senior managers, and innovation leads, allowing business owners to continue running their companies alongside the programme.
Eoin McDonnell, head of strategic programmes at Skillnet Ireland, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The strategic innovation and entrepreneurship programme equips business leaders with the tools, mindset, and peer network to drive real change.”
Dermot Casey, chief executive of the Industry Research and Development Group, added, “In today’s challenging economic environment, Irish SMEs need practical, results-oriented solutions to stay competitive. Through our collaboration with Skillnet Ireland, this pioneering programme provides business leaders with a clear strategic roadmap, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and hands-on guidance to convert innovation into real growth for Irish enterprises.”
Applications for the programme will close on September 24, 2023. For more information and to apply, interested parties can visit the official website at https://events.irdg.ie/SIESMEs2025#/ or contact the program office at 01-2079630. This initiative represents a significant opportunity for Limerick’s SMEs to enhance their operational strategies and drive sustainable growth in a competitive marketplace.
