Owners Máire and Geoff shared the news through their Instagram account, expressing their mixed emotions about the decision. They stated, “It’s with mixed emotions that we announce the closure of Yew Tree with our last trading day being the 31st August.” The statement highlights the financial pressures they faced, noting that “so many costs are spiralling out of control,” ultimately leading to the difficult choice to cease operations.
The Yew Tree became a favored dining destination renowned for its à la carte offerings and Sunday roasts. The owners took the opportunity to thank the loyal customers, staff, and suppliers who contributed to the restaurant’s success. They remarked, “We have made many friends and built great relationships with the people of Terenure,” indicating the deep connections fostered over the years.
As news of the closure spread, customers expressed their disappointment online. One patron wrote, “Máire and Geoff, we’re so sorry to hear this. You should be so proud of what you achieved; the food and service were a credit to you both.” Another echoed this sentiment, stating, “Absolutely gutted to hear this, Máire. We absolutely loved going there. Amazing food & service… you folks will be sorely missed.”
