Tirlán Launches Feed Support to Boost Milk Output Amid Dry Conditions

Tirlán, a cooperative based in Kilkenny, is providing essential feed support to its family farm milk suppliers to help them maintain milk production during a recent dry spell. The initiative includes a rebate of €30 per tonne on GAIN dairy feed, €10 per tonne on Irish rolled cereals, and €3 per tonne on straights. This support aims to address the challenges posed by reduced grass growth and availability in the Tirlán catchment area, which have hindered suppliers’ efforts to build adequate grass reserves for the autumn.
The adverse weather conditions have led to an increased reliance on conserved forage, thereby impacting milk supply in several regions. According to a recent survey of Tirlán milk suppliers, around 90% of the 593 respondents reported either a declining average farm cover or challenges in building grass reserves on their farms.
Details of the Feed Support Initiative
The feed support program will be available for a three-week period, from August 24 to September 13, 2025How to Access the Support
Tirlán milk suppliers are encouraged to place their orders through their local Tirlán branch, Business Manager, or online via Tirlán FarmLife by accessing the ‘My Account’ section. This streamlined process aims to facilitate easy access to the necessary resources and ensure that suppliers can effectively manage their herds during these challenging conditions. The proactive measures taken by Tirlán reflect the cooperative’s commitment to supporting its suppliers and safeguarding the future of milk production in the region. As farmers navigate these dry conditions, the collaborative efforts of organizations like Tirlán play a vital role in sustaining agricultural output and ensuring food security.
