The hospitality sector in Kilkenny has welcomed a significant leadership change with the appointment of Tom Comerford as the Executive Head Chef of Hunter’s Yard, which houses The Hound, a distinguished dining venue at Mount Juliet Estate. Comerford brings over two decades of culinary experience from some of the most prestigious kitchens in Ireland and the UK. His culinary journey began at the age of 15 as a Commis Chef at the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny. He later honed his skills under the guidance of celebrated chef Pierre Koffman at the renowned three Michelin-starred restaurant, La Tante Claire, in London.

Throughout his career, Comerford has worked at several high-profile establishments, including the two Michelin-starred Landmark Hotel in London and Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, where he earned and retained a Michelin star as Head Chef. His impressive resume also includes stints at Midsummer House with chef Daniel Clifford, where he contributed to the restaurant maintaining two Michelin stars and five AA Rosettes. Additionally, he led Anthony’s Restaurant in Leeds, garnering a Michelin Rising Star and four AA Rosettes.

Most recently, Comerford was the Head Chef at Ballyfin Demesne, widely regarded as one of the finest hotels globally. During his tenure, the hotel received three Michelin Keys in the Michelin Hotel Guide and achieved a Michelin star, further solidifying Comerford’s exceptional credentials.

Commitment to Culinary Excellence

Mount Juliet Estate is already home to the Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant The Lady Helen, led by Executive Head Chef John Kelly. Comerford’s appointment at Hunter’s Yard is expected to enhance the estate’s culinary offerings. General Manager Mark Dunne expressed enthusiasm about Comerford joining the team, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Tom to the team. His talent, leadership, and extensive Michelin-starred background will bring new energy to The Hunters Yard, while complementing the exceptional standards already set across the estate.”
