Cork Comedian Takes a Humorous Jab at Kilkenny Ahead of Show

A well-known Cork humourist, operating under the fictional persona of Reggie from Blackrock Road, has sparked attention with a humorous critique of Kilkenny. In a video shared on social media, ahead of his upcoming performance at the Set Theatre on October 19, Reggie delivers his signature tongue-in-cheek commentary while touring Kilkenny City.
The video opens with Reggie exclaiming, “Hello, old stocks. I’m in Kilkenny. And I’m f***ing furious.” This sets the tone for a lighthearted yet pointed exploration of the city, where he contrasts it with his hometown of Cork. He playfully recalls being told in school that Kilkenny was merely a “toy city,” but admits, “parts of Kilkenny are almost on a par with Cork.”
As the comedic tour unfolds, Reggie offers a mix of backhanded compliments about Kilkenny’s landmarks. Notably, he remarks, “Just as embarrassing, this castle [referring to Kilkenny Castle] is nicer than Blackrock Castle.” His observations extend beyond landmarks to the cultural scene, where he quips about the locals’ appreciation for literature. “It’s not just hurling and finding new uses for phone charging cables. They like a book as well,” he states, highlighting the presence of places like a Left Bank and a Rive Gauche.
Reggie’s comedic persona delves into the city’s architectural history, humorously noting, “The last time they put up a new building was 1672. Even Dunnes is medieval.” This playful jab showcases his unique style while simultaneously engaging his audience.
As the video progresses, Reggie seems to develop a genuine curiosity about the city’s prosperity. He questions, “So where is Kilkenny getting all its money? Is it just a giant front for the mob? Where did Kilkenny get all its money?” This rhetorical flourish adds an element of intrigue to his commentary, inviting viewers to ponder the city’s affluence alongside his comedic musings.
Reggie from Blackrock Road is the brainchild of Pat Fitzpatrick, whose character has garnered a following for its satirical take on various topics. For those interested in experiencing more of Reggie’s observations, tickets for the upcoming gig at the Set Theatre can be purchased at set.ie.
This humorous take on Kilkenny not only entertains but also fosters a connection between the two cities, showcasing the charm and quirks of both Cork and Kilkenny through the lens of comedy.
