Doireann Garrihy, the popular host of RTE 2FM, recently shared a comedic moment from her family’s past during the season finale of her podcast, Doireann & Friends. The episode featured her mother, Clare Garrihy, who recounted a memorable story from the night she gave birth to Doireann. Fans of the show found the tale particularly amusing, taking to social media to express their delight.
Podcast Highlights Family Bonding
In an engaging Instagram post, Doireann Garrihy announced the finale, stating, “I had to wrap up this season of Doireann and Friends with my Mom.” She humorously noted Clare’s busy schedule filled with gym sessions, golf, and tennis, making it a challenge to secure time for the interview. This episode showcases the close relationship between Doireann and her parents, Clare and Eugene Garrihy.
During the podcast, Clare shared a hilarious recollection of the night she went into labor. As she described the moment a nurse confirmed her condition, she recalled her initial excitement: “I was so thrilled when the nurse said I can confirm you are in labour and we’ll be keeping you in.”
However, the mood shifted when the nurse informed Clare that her husband had left the hospital. “Your husband is after going, he’s gone out to get something to eat,” the nurse said. Clare was left astonished, noting, “He had something to eat before we left the house.” The nurse explained that Eugene felt he needed more food to prepare for what could be a long night.
A Comedic Twist on a Life Event
Doireann could not contain her laughter as Clare recounted the story. “Where did he even go?” Doireann asked incredulously. Clare responded, “Baggot Street to a chipper for fish and chips.” This unexpected twist to a significant life event not only entertained Doireann but also had listeners in stitches.
As Clare continued, she revealed the humorous reunion with Eugene upon his return. “He came back later and I said, ‘Eugene, you cannot be serious, you are joking me.’” The combination of Clare’s storytelling and Doireann’s reactions made the episode a standout.
Listeners and fans flooded the comment section of the podcast’s social media posts, praising Clare for her wit. Comments included: “Hahaha Clare is gas,” and “You couldn’t write it!” Another listener remarked, “I love your mum, she is too funny.” One fan even suggested that Clare should have her own show, stating, “@claregarrihy is a legend, she should have her own show… hilarious.”
With the successful finale of this season, the episode not only highlighted the importance of family but also provided a light-hearted perspective on the often serious nature of childbirth. Doireann Garrihy’s podcast continues to resonate with audiences, showcasing the joy and laughter that can emerge from life’s most pivotal moments.
