Dublin’s Drag Icon Davina Devine Dazzles with Sold-Out Fringe Show

Dublin drag performer Davina Devine has captivated audiences with her sold-out show, Diary of a Dublin Drag Diva, at the Dublin Fringe Festival. The one-woman performance, which took place at Bewley’s Café Theatre, showcases a blend of humour, personal anecdotes, and a celebration of queer culture. This remarkable production marks a culmination of over two decades of resilience and evolution in the entertainment industry.
As the first show to sell out at this year’s festival, the overwhelming response led to an additional performance at Smock Alley Theatre, which sold out within an hour. “I am thrilled,” Davina expressed regarding the enthusiastic reception of her work.
Personal Reflections and Cultural Evolution
Davina Devine, who has been a prominent figure in Dublin’s drag scene for more than twenty years, reflects on her experiences and the significant changes within the culture. She stated, “I’ve had some wild experiences and lots of lessons… All the country and our culture have changed vastly in such a short time, so I feel sharing our lived experiences always helps people connect.”
The show promises a treasure trove of previously unseen material from her colourful past, including video and photo content from performances before the advent of social media. “You’ll have to come to peek behind that curtain,” she suggests, hinting at the exciting revelations that await attendees.
Davina acknowledges the evolution of drag, noting its new mainstream status. “Drag has evolved so much it’s become so mainstream… The reality is that any career demands a lot of work and determination,” she explains, emphasizing that the art form is not as simple as putting on makeup and heels.

She highlights the importance of adaptability in the ever-changing landscape of entertainment: “It truly is a story of resilience and reinvention because to last the time I have in this business, you need to constantly be on the move, thinking ahead.”
