Highland Radio Revamps Evening News and Primetime Lineup for 2026

Highland Radio has announced a significant change to its broadcasting schedule, moving the Main Evening News to a new time slot at 17:30 starting from January 5, 2026. This adjustment is part of a comprehensive revamp aimed at enhancing listener engagement and adapting to audience preferences.

The new schedule introduces a range of exciting programming changes, beginning with The Naughty Alarm Clock, hosted by Lee Gooch, which will continue to wake listeners from 06:30 to 09:00. Following this, Greg Hughes will take the airwaves with his show from 09:00 to 11:00, focusing on the latest news and issues relevant to the North West region.

From 11:00 to 13:00, John Breslin will host Around the Northwest, a program that mixes popular Irish music with lively discussions. The afternoon lineup will then shift to the 13:00 news segment, followed by Jivetime with David James from 13:30 to 15:30, delivering a vibrant mix of country and classic hits.

The most notable change occurs at 15:30, as Highland Radio introduces a new Drivetime show, hosted by Danny O’Carroll, best known for his role in Mrs Brown’s Boys, alongside Áine Sweeney. The duo will offer a fresh approach to the afternoon drive, guiding listeners home with a blend of music and engaging conversation until 17:30.

The revamped schedule concludes with the 17:30 news update, transitioning to The Power Hour with Ivan Boreland from 18:00, further enriching the evening programming.

Highland Radio’s CEO, Sean Quinn, emphasized the importance of these changes, stating, “This new schedule reflects where our listeners are today and what they’re looking for at key moments of the day.” He highlighted that Highland Radio has been a staple in people’s daily lives for over 35 years, and adapting to listener needs is vital for the station’s future.

Quinn added, “Bringing in Danny and Áine for a brand-new Drivetime show adds something completely fresh, and adjusting our existing shows gives each programme the space it needs to shine.” He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming changes and the renewed energy they will bring to the station.
