Jon Bon Jovi Lands in Dublin, Teases Future Croke Park Shows
Jon Bon Jovi has arrived in Dublin, humorously expressing his desire to “become Irish” while hinting at potential future concerts at Croke Park. The frontman of the iconic rock band confirmed that Bon Jovi will perform six shows across the United States, Ireland, and the United Kingdom next summer as part of The Forever Tour. This will mark his return to the stage after a hiatus due to vocal surgery in 2022.
The 63-year-old singer touched down in Dublin on Wednesday night to announce the upcoming Irish performance, scheduled for August 30, 2024. Reflecting on his connection to Ireland, he stated, “The most special” part of his visits is the feeling he gets when he is there. His wife, Dorothea Hurley, has Irish heritage, which adds to his affection for the country. Bon Jovi remarked, “There’s a feeling I get when I come here. Maybe it’s because I’m smart enough to marry an Irish woman.”
Future Performances and Recovery Journey
Next year will be significant as it marks two decades since Bon Jovi last performed at Croke Park. The band has also graced other notable Irish venues, including the Point Depot, Lansdowne Road, and Slane Castle. When asked if he remembered his last performance at Croke Park, Bon Jovi responded, “How can you not?”
Regarding the possibility of additional nights at Croke Park, he suggested a cautious approach: “Let’s get Jonny’s feet wet and then bring him back into the pool. You know, one step at a time.” He emphasized the importance of returning to live performances, stating that he “needs” to get back out there.
Bon Jovi underwent a medialisation procedure in June 2023 to strengthen his vocal cords after doctors identified atrophy in one of them. He shared insights into his recovery, saying, “I had a massive surgery with no idea that the recovery was going to be so long, but I never lost faith that it would get back to what it needed to be. I’m 100% healed and that’s why I can come back.”
A Love for Ireland’s Storytellers
Bon Jovi expressed admiration for the rich musical heritage of Ireland, citing a common thread among Irish artists such as Thin Lizzy, U2, Inhaler, Van Morrison, and Damien Rice: the ability to tell compelling stories. Initially drawn to Ireland for its music, he now values the connections he has made with its people. He remarked, “The storyteller was a common thread here. And I was always drawn to the storyteller.”
The singer noted that he enjoys visiting pubs across Ireland, where he finds that everyone, whether a singer or not, has a story to tell. “I have believed every one of them,” he added, highlighting the warmth and authenticity of Irish culture.
When reflecting on Bon Jovi’s extraordinary success, he humorously stated, “No, I couldn’t have lied that good. It has exceeded every wildest dream that we’ve ever had.”
Bon Jovi also took a moment to pay tribute to the late Lord Henry Mount Charles, owner of Slane Castle, who passed away earlier this year. He expressed sadness over the loss, noting that new artists would miss the opportunity to meet him.
Presale tickets for the Croke Park concert will be available starting October 27, with general sales commencing on October 31.
For fans eager to catch Bon Jovi live, this performance promises to be a memorable celebration of music, storytelling, and a special connection to Ireland.
