Meghan Markle has contacted her estranged father, Thomas Markle, following his recent hospitalization for a serious medical condition. Mr. Markle underwent an emergency procedure to amputate his left leg below the knee after it became black due to a blood clot, a decision made to prevent life-threatening complications. He fell ill at his home in the Philippines and was admitted to hospital, where doctors determined immediate surgery was necessary.

A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex confirmed, “I can confirm she has reached out to her father.” This communication comes after a significant period of estrangement between the two, a relationship strained since the royal wedding in May 2018.

Emergency Surgery and Health Concerns

According to reports, Mr. Markle’s condition was critical, prompting a three-hour operation to remove his leg. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., described the situation as dire, stating, “It was a case of life or death. The next two or three days are critical.” Following the surgery, doctors are carefully monitoring him for potential infections such as sepsis or gangrene, which can arise after such procedures.

Mr. Markle has struggled with health issues for several years. He suffered two heart attacks just before his daughter’s wedding, which prevented him from attending the ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Subsequently, King Charles walked Meghan part of the way down the aisle. In 2022, he experienced a stroke that left him unable to speak for months, although he did regain some ability to communicate after intensive therapy.
